“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” – Oprah Winfrey
Throughout the 1990s there was one thing I looked forward to every weekday – The Oprah Winfrey Show. I counted on Oprah to share real conversations with real people about every day topics that were on a lot of people’s minds, including my own.
Oprah is one of my mentors. She takes risks, is a brilliant businesswoman, cares about others, and breathes life into topics that I didn’t know mattered to me until she presented them.
As Oprah continues to invent and reinvent herself, I keep watching and following because her authentic and consistent action inspires me to do more and be more.
Sometimes when you begin new plans, goals, and actions – you lose your motivation. The irony is that motivation comes from taking consistent action. Like driving a car – if you take your foot off the gas pedal, the engine stops.
As we tiptoe deeper into the new year, what or who is inspiring you to take consistent action? What do you care about and how does it align with where you want to go?
If you’re in a spot where you’re easing up on what you started, refocus on why you wanted to start in the first place. You can do this. Starting new things isn’t always easy. Focus on the why and the benefits you want to experience. What will it feel like? What will it look like? Who will you be? How will it benefit others?
If you’re still going and you’re not sure if it’s working, find your Oprah. Who inspires you to keep going? Is there someone who has what you’re looking to achieve? What have they done? Can you contact them for mentorship? Or, do they have content that you can read/listen to/watch?
If you’re chugging right along, how are you celebrating your wins? Your hard work is worthy of your recognition and praise.
Your consistent action continually fuels your motivation. Attaching your action to what you care about helps you create the change you want. Celebrating your wins along the way will bring new energy to your effort as you go.
