How important is your lifestyle to you? If you’re unsure, when you look around your immediate surroundings – your friends, your loved ones, your environments outside and inside your home, your commute to work, your office environment, the town or city you live in, the town or city you work in… what do you like about all of these things the most? What would you like to see change? What would you like to stay the same?
If you have a long commute and prefer to spend as much time as possible at home with your family, what can you change to have that?
Until we learn about what’s possible, we keep ourselves limited to the vision we know – either what we’ve experienced or what we’ve seen others achieve. Even then, when we see others achieve things far beyond our wildest dreams, we question our ability to achieve the same thing.
Do you know what it takes to create possibility in your life for the lifestyle you want to have? Belief, vision, commitment, and you giving yourself permission to go after it.
I remember when I first started working in tech and the smallest things that became available made me gush with excitement – free soda, electronic standing desks, visionary company meetings with a collective mission to make the world better. I had no idea any of it existed until I got there.
Had I hoped for it and visualized it as a possibility? Yes! And, yet, it was so much better than I anticipated.
A big portion of my journey to realize this new world of possibility was to give myself permission to experience it. Sometimes we keep ourselves in a smaller box because it’s safe, comfortable, and we know what to expect.
Take a few minutes right now to write down 10 things you’d like to incorporate into your lifestyle. Here are a few ideas:
- Shorter commute
- Work from home
- Highly engaged team
- An increase in pay
- Specific vacations
- A loving relationship
Now that you have your list, write three ideas on how to create each item. If this seems daunting, write down where you can research ideas or people you can ask for ideas.
What you’re doing in this exercise is taking the first step to give yourself permission to create the lifestyle you truly want.
Guess what the rest of us receive when you take action like this?
- A positive example of what’s possible
- Motivation/inspiration
- Ideas that we may not have thought of
- Encouragement
- Happiness
- More choices
Thank you for authentically tapping into the lifestyle you’d like to create.
Loved this thank you Chelsea!
